A staffer at Boston’s Northeastern University was injured after a package he was opening on campus exploded, college officials and reports said.

The package detonated shortly after 7 p.m. inside Holmes Hall, a school spokesperson told The Post in an email.
The 45-year-old staffer suffered minor injuries and was being treated at an area hospital, according to the school and Boston EMS.
Boston Police Department’s bomb squad and the FBI are investigating the incident, the school and officials said.
Holmes Hall, which is home to the university’s creative writing program, was evacuated and the school community was told to avoid the area shortly before 8 p.m.
Sources told CBS Boston the package was in a Pelican case and contained a message that ranted against virtual reality and Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg.
Police also responded to a second suspicious package near the Museum of Fine Arts, but it was later rendered safe by the bomb squad, authorities said, according to the Boston Herald.
Boston Mayor Michelle Wu said it was important to the city that its young people feel safe.
“We want to make sure to emphasize that this is of the utmost priority, the safety and well-being of all of our young people here,” she said during a press conference streamed by NBC 10.
Student Jacob Isaacs said he was in class at Holmes Hall when fire alarms sounded.
“We were in class and then we saw two policemen walk through the building and then as soon as we look out the window, we see a fire truck with the lights on blazing, and then our teacher is like ‘I gotta see what’s going on,’” Isaacs told NBC 10.116

“And he sees that the fire truck is going and there’s a police car outside and as that happened, instantly the fire alarm starts going off.”
Nearby Harvard University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology stepped up patrols as a precaution.
