Doechii has had a major 2024, but she is already looking ahead at what next year will bring. The TDE artist announced her debut album will come out in 2025.
The Tampa rapper spoke with Variety about her major year and what is to come, promising that her introductory LP will be out in 2025. “All I can think about is this album, so I’m just looking forward to making more hits, making more music and achieving more of my goals,” she said. “That’s it.”
Contrary to popular belief and the reception it has received, her August 2024 project Alligator Bites Never Heal was a mixtape. “I woke up one day and told my label, ‘I’m just going to make a mixtape,’” she said, admitting there was pressure associated with the “debut album” label. “I was able to birth this out of pure presence and creativity, and I think I want to carry that with all of my projects and have that mentality moving forward.”
Doechii stuck the landing with Alligator Bites Never Heal, earning herself nominations for Best New Artist, Best Rap Performance, and Best Rap Album at the upcoming Grammys. She became the first woman to be nominated in the Best Rap Album category for a mixtape.
“It just shows how conceptual the music really was,” she said. “And for such a conceptual project to be a mixtape makes me very affirmed — that my ideas are great, and that people resonate with the music.”
The 26-year-old artist recently gave strong performances on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert and NPR’s popular Tiny Desk platform. With all of this momentum, 2025 could shape up to be the ideal follow-up to a breakthrough year between possibly winning a Grammy and delivering another album.
