Canadian rapper Tory Lanez, born Daystar Peterson, is recovering in a Bakersfield hospital after surviving a violent stabbing incident at the California Correctional Institution in Tehachapi. Lanez, who is serving a 10-year sentence for the 2020 shooting of Megan Thee Stallion, was attacked by another inmate on the morning of May 12, 2025.

According to reports, Lanez sustained 14 stab wounds: seven to his back, four to his torso, two to the back of his head, and one to the left side of his face. The assault resulted in both of his lungs collapsing, necessitating immediate medical intervention. He was rushed to a hospital where he was placed on a breathing apparatus. As of now, Lanez is breathing independently and is reported to be in stable condition.

The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation has confirmed that an investigation is underway, involving the prison’s Investigative Services Unit, the Kern County District Attorney’s Office, and the Office of the Inspector General. The motive behind the attack remains unclear, and no suspects have been publicly identified.

Lanez’s legal troubles began with his conviction in December 2022 on three felony charges related to the shooting of Megan Thee Stallion. He was sentenced to 10 years in prison in August 2023 and is eligible for parole in 2029.

Despite the severity of his injuries, Lanez’s team shared an update on his official Instagram account, stating that he is in good spirits and thankful for the support he has received. They also expressed gratitude to the medical staff for their prompt and effective care.

This incident raises concerns about inmate safety and the conditions within the prison system. As the investigation continues, further details are expected to emerge regarding the circumstances of the attack and any potential implications for prison security protocols.
