Elon Musk has officially announced his departure from his role as a Special Government Employee in the Trump administration, concluding his tenure leading the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). This role, which began in January 2025, was designed to last 130 days and focused on streamlining federal operations and reducing government spending.

Musk’s exit follows his public criticism of President Trump’s “big beautiful bill,” a significant legislative package that Musk described as a “massive spending bill” contradicting DOGE’s cost-cutting objectives.

In a statement on X, Musk expressed gratitude to President Trump for the opportunity to serve, stating, “As my scheduled time as a Special Government Employee comes to an end, I would like to thank President @realDonaldTrump for the opportunity to reduce wasteful spending.”

Despite stepping down, Musk indicated that the mission of DOGE would continue, emphasizing its importance in promoting governmental efficiency.

Musk’s departure marks a shift in his focus back to his core ventures, including Tesla, SpaceX, and X. While he may continue to influence public policy discussions, his direct involvement in government operations has concluded.
