South-East London native Ego Ella May will release her second album, Good Intentions, March 20 via Believe UK.

The 12-track set was produced by May, alongside Alfa Mist, Beat Butcha, LVTHER, Melo-Zed, TAVE, Tom Excell and Wu-Lu, among others. The album is said to explore themes of community, liberation, vulnerability, and “the complicated beauty of everyday human experience.”

Regarding her first album in six years, May said, “Ever the intentional woman, I’ve chosen Spring Equinox as the release date to symbolise a natural reset, & renewal- that fresh energy after the reflections of winter when life naturally starts to move again.”

She continued, “This album marks a new beginning for me: creating & releasing from integrity rather than urgency. It’s called ‘Good Intentions’ because that’s how it was made! With a pure heart – no rushing, no proving.. just honest expression & trust in the timing.”

Beyond May’s introspection and conversations with her inner circle, Good Intentions is also informed by the authors she loves — namely, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, Patti Smith, Chinua Achebe, Ayọ̀bámi Adébáyọ̀, and Joan Didion.

Good Intentions includes the early singles “What We Do” and the Marvin Gaye-inspired “We’re Not Free.” Along with her album announcement, has shared the latest single, “What You Waiting For.” The jazz-flavored tune warmly embraces living in the present.

“‘What You Waiting For’ is one of my favourite songs to play live, this song is so fun! But it holds a deeper meaning about living life NOW, and about presence. Quite simply, don’t wait! The time is now,” said May. “I wrote it about this album as a whole, and trying to conjure up more of a belief in myself and my gifts, and I kept saying to myself, ‘If not now, when?’ It’s the anthem I play when I need a confidence boost!”

Good Intentions will follow 2020’s Honey For Wounds.
