Chris Brown, the 36-year-old American R&B singer, has been released on bail following his arrest in the United Kingdom on charges of grievous bodily harm. The charges stem from an alleged incident in February 2023, where Brown is accused of attacking music producer Abraham Diaw with a tequila bottle at a London nightclub.
Brown was arrested in Manchester on May 15, 2025, and initially denied bail due to the severity of the allegations. However, on May 21, he was granted bail by Southwark Crown Court in London after agreeing to a £5 million ($6.7 million) security fee. Under the terms of his bail, Brown must reside at a court-approved address, surrender his passport when not traveling for his tour, and avoid contact with the alleged victim and the nightclub where the incident occurred.
The bail decision allows Brown to proceed with his “Breezy Bowl XX” world tour, celebrating 20 years of his music career. The tour is set to commence on June 8 in Amsterdam and includes dates across Europe and North America.
Brown’s next court appearance is scheduled for June 20 at Southwark Crown Court, where he is expected to enter a plea. His co-defendant, Omololu Akinlolu, also known as HoodyBaby, faces similar charges in connection with the alleged assault.
The case has garnered significant media attention, with fellow artist Justin Bieber publicly expressing support for Brown following his release. Bieber commented “welcome home” on Brown’s Instagram post announcing his return to the U.S.
As legal proceedings continue, Brown’s ability to fulfill his tour commitments remains under scrutiny, with the upcoming court date likely to impact his schedule.
