There’s something beautiful about a woman stepping into a new season of love on her own terms. Sonya Curry, mother of NBA stars Stephen and Seth Curry, has remarried at 60, sharing the happy news on Instagram in October. Her celebration took place at the Fairmont Scottsdale Princess in Arizona. (people.com)

And yes, we have to talk about the dress! Sonya wore a white Pnina Tornai gown with gold floral details, paired with Iza diamonds. With white roses, candles and warm neutral décor, the celebration had a romantic, elegant feel. (nypost.com)
But beyond the bridal fashion, it’s the meaning behind this moment that makes her story worth celebrating.

In her announcement, Sonya reflected on faith, grief and finding love after the unexpected loss of her mother. She referenced Ecclesiastes and its message about life’s changing seasons. At the time of the announcement, she had not publicly named her new husband. (thegrio.com)
For women navigating life after 50, that message can hit close to home. So much conversation centers on what we’re supposedly too old to do—what to wear, what to want and whether we should even bother starting over. A wedding like this offers a lovely reminder: there is still room for excitement, romance and something entirely new.
You don’t have to be looking for marriage to appreciate that. Your next chapter might involve launching a business, learning a skill, traveling somewhere new or simply making more time for yourself. There’s no age at which you have to stop imagining a life that makes you happy.
What I love about this moment is the chance to celebrate Sonya as a woman with her own story. We may know her as Steph Curry’s mother, but she deserves joy beyond the roles she holds in everyone else’s life.
Congratulations to Sonya and her husband. Here’s to love, beautiful beginnings and having something wonderful to look forward to.
Would you say “I do” again—or for the first time—after 50? Let’s talk in the comments.
