Like its equine namesake, the Ford Bronco SUV is far from tame. It can venture deep into the wilds and, with its roof and doors removed, will make you feel as free and unencumbered as a wild horse as you tear through the woods or leap over sand dunes. Unlike its namesake, however, this SUV is easy to control, and unless you stomp on the brakes or forget to turn off four-wheel drive, it won’t buck. It’s also much better-mannered on the highway than its arch-rival, the Jeep Wrangler. A 300-hp turbo-four and a 330-hp twin-turbo V6 are available, as is a manual transmission (albeit only with the four-cylinder), along with numerous packages that add increasing amounts of off-road equipment and overlanding capability. The interior is utility-focused, plagued by excessive wind noise, and difficult to zhuzh up, but it’s modern, reasonably comfortable, and roomy. And who doesn’t like how the outside looks?
